april 19th class w/ jon brekke
hi folks, please get your segments in asap. when jon comes in tomorrow, he will give a brief presentation of what oceanic 16 is up to in terms of interactive tv. they are also looking for shows, interns and workers as they ramp up their production efforts. he will also intro some of his work and background as an independent producer and tv producer/writer at oc-16.
he is looking forward to hearing about the show the class has outlined, as well as your individual pitches.
if you want to pitch an idea for a tv or interactive show to him, come with a one-page bulletpoint presentation. you may want to polish your pitch packet and deliver it to him in a couple of weeks, rather than leave him anything tomorrow. he should be open to that.
also, i can do a general outline of the tv show, but writer/producers should be able to give an overview of the individual segments, as well as what you folks feel about the overall look or feel of the program.
if any of you have suggestions for the title of the show, let me know. it is a magazine format interactive show (i.e., both on traditional tv and produced with internet delivery as an endpoint). here are some possibilities off the top of my head:
rainbow report
voice of hawai'i
hawai'i in depth
manoa chronicles
manoa mana'o
the valley chronicle
mana manoa
etc.
what do you think? we should at least have a working title on the tv show. per the above, let's think about this as an interactive tv program, since that is what oc-16 is looking for and turning towards.
please finalize your segment and get it posted on the blog. aloha, pete

CHECKOUT...my tv pilot..finally!
TITLE: “Checkout”
GENRE: MTV
IDEAL AUDIENCE: 18-34
IDEAL VENUE: CABLE NETWORK
IDEAL RUN TIME: 30 min.
TYPE OF SHOW: Reality/Game show
SYNOPISIS:
Hotel Party’s are not just for Rock Stars. We have assembled a team of “expert” party throwers and goers to attempt to throw the ultimate hotel party. In this show we take a basic room, suite, or loft, and throw a raging party equipped with DJ, lights, food and drinks. They have a time limit, and a budget to follow, and must follow through. There’s one catch, they have to make it until “Checkout”. Yep. They can’t get caught! They can not get kicked out or have the party shut down. They have to make the room look as if it never happened, and they have to leave undetected by anyone. If they make it, the newest recruit gets to move on to the next town, if not, they get booted from the list.
PROTAGONIST:
A team of expert party-goers and throwers.
EXAMPLES:
-DJ
-Promoter

2- The Location

update
hi folks, below is a message from our guest margaret south. i told her i would pass on this info for those interested.
_________________________________________________________________________________________
Hey there.
It was a pleasure meeting you and your students, Peter; thanks for having
me. It is amazing, isn't it, that our projects have so many
outlets/applications nowadays?
Per your questions, I'm giving a 4 week version of THE ART OF STORY in
mid-May; for more information, or to register, go to: outreach.hawaii.edu.
The class fills up quickly, so time is of the essence.
For a private consultation on an existing project, I charge $400. You
receive 4-5 pages of written notes and a one-hour session, either in person
or on the phone. (I haven't raised my rate in 2 years; it's going up to
$500 on June 1, just so you know.) I'd refer you to my website, but it's
under construction and the web guy has the flu.)
In the fall, we're planning a four week intensive story structure class, as
well as a master class held over 10 weeks.
Regards,
Margaret

Subject: Pricing for classes
Hi margaret, some of our writers asked for pricing on your
classes. Also, pricing on your script reading. I will send it around, if that's okay. Thanks again, pete

blogger was down
hi folks, blogger.com was down this past weekend--so those who posted, like me, probably lost those posts. apparently they've worked out the server issues and the site is operating again as usual. fyi, i checked with jon brekke, creative director at oc-16. they do not have templates or guidelines for show pitches or packets. they take 'em one submission at a time. usually they like to see a demo of a segment, and will be looking for professionalism, etc. if the producer/writers don't have a track record, they may ask for a complete show.
john fink, general manager and vp of khnl/kfve is visiting today. john has a deep background in broadcast radio and tv.
please choose a reading for your abstract/presentation and let me know what it is.
